Queen Street (Yoga) Conversations

You may be wondering why we are talking about yoga in a blog for Transition?  Well, for the last few months, Queen Street Yoga has offered a free yoga practice followed by a conversation on climate change and environmental devastation.

If you’ve read the book, Active Hope you may be familiar with this idea.  This gem of an idea if memory serves is to help dispel some of the pessimism and perhaps despair of climate change by talking about the issue with others.  In this manner we build resilience to deal with the impacts of climate change.  (This idea is sounded out further in Active Hope pictured below and written by ecophilosopher Joanna Macy and Chris Johnstone.)

Queen St. Yoga offered their third such conversation on Sunday, August 18th.  The setting for this conversation occurred under the trees of Victoria Park – no better venue I believe in Waterloo region.  I was pleasantly surprised by the good attendance – over 15 people were there.  Even more surprising was the gentle conversation.  Everyone had an opportunity to contribute to the conversation and personally some very interesting ideas and perspectives encouraged my positive thinking on the whole event and practice and ways we can deal with climate change.

Hopefully this sharing will continue with another conversation in September.  Stay tuned to the QSY link above for future dates.
